Football Chip
Occasionally, internet access and Google searches are really useful, even if a search dies result in thousands of pages, most of which never get read. Take, for example, ‘Football chip’. Obviously a term linked with what certain Brits still call ‘soccer’ , your average female might have no idea at all what it meant.
The aforementioned Google search brings up, as expected, thousands of pages, with 50 sites on each, possibly including chipinfo.org.uk, although you may not get that far as the first two results explain the term. A Football chip is simply a way if kicking the ball so that it travels in a tall arc over a short distance.
Now that’s clear, how is it done? Apparently, the player is required to swing his leg at an angle during his Football chip, contacting the ball below its centre with his toes pointing downwards, (the online description is ‘like a ski-slope’!). The player should be leaning backwards when he kicks, and this procedure makes the ball spin backwards.
Apparently, this shot can be used to try to score a goal – and is done suing the instep rather than the toes. For those who didn’t realise footie was so complicated, live and learn! This is possibly why our men spend hours glued to the TV; they’re looking for a Football chip, or some such, while we’re looking for an explanation on chipinfo.org/uk.
Just another reason the internet’s central to our lives in the 21st century, with all the info we need right there, not necessarily on chipinfo.org.uk, but somewhere on the rest of the trillions of pages!
